Sector Sustainability: The Power of Training and Upskilling

We are all blessed with key team members who show core values and commitment in everything they do. Developing both those individuals and the wider team not only enhances service quality, but also promotes sector sustainability, by fostering a motivated and capable workforce. The investment required from employees to develop comprehensive training and upskilling is not a light one, so finding the middle ground can be a challenge.

Indago Development is thrilled to be working in partnership with Devon Care Homes Collaborative to address and enhance this sustainability within the care sector.

Indago has cultivated a solution in the form of our ‘Leaders of Today’ programme. Specifically designed to build upon existing leadership skills, the course equips participants with advanced knowledge in a variety of skills. Many individuals will already have developed communication styles, emotional intelligence, and diverse leadership approaches – but they may lack confidence in their own abilities.

But why is such investment in training and upskilling so vital?

1. Promoting Internal Growth and Leadership

The ‘Leaders of Today’ programme focuses on developing leadership skills within existing teams, working with each individual to enhance their strengths and build their confidence. We know that promoting from within ensures that leadership roles are filled by individuals who are already familiar with the organisation's values and operations. It also provides a structured development pathway for team members, promoting value and loyalty among teams. This internal promotion strategy contributes to a stable and cohesive team environment while also reducing the time and cost associated with external recruitment.

2. Sector Sustainability

Sustainability in the care sector is about more than just meeting immediate needs; it’s about creating a resilient infrastructure capable of adapting to future challenges. A well-trained and continuously upskilled workforce is better equipped to handle evolving care demands and innovations. Programmes like "Leaders of Today" cultivate leaders who can drive these adaptations with confidence, ensuring that the sector remains robust and responsive.

3. Enhancing Service Quality

Providing team members with advanced training empowers them to deliver high quality care and outcomes for those they care for. The skills and knowledge explored in the "Leaders of Today" programme, enable caregivers to better understand and respond to not only the needs of those they care for, but the teams that they work with and lead.

The sustainability of the care sector relies heavily on the strength and stability of its workforce. Investing in the training and upskilling of current team members through programmes like Indago Development's ‘Leaders of Today’ is not just a benefit to the employees, but a strategic move towards ensuring high-quality care, employee retention, and a resilient, adaptable sector. By nurturing internal talent and promoting from within, care organisations can build a sustainable future that meets the growing demands of our society with excellence and compassion.
