LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT

New Learning and Development Manager

John Willsdon has recently joined the team as DCHC’s L&D Manager. The focus of John’s role is to ensure DCHC members have access to the right high quality training that they need in order to do their role.  John will be actively advocating for our needs, sourcing training providers and securing funding to support development of social care employees right across the Devon region. John has qualifications in psychology and has a wealth of experience supporting L&D functions within the Australian Public Service and the financial services sector. He is also an ICF accredited professional certified coach. If you have questions or feedback about any aspect of training and development, he would love to hear from you. You can reach him at john@devoncarehomes.org or on 07857 970 418.

Focus Groups

The L&D team are currently developing an education strategy to ensure the care sector employees in Devon have access to the training they need. To inform the development of his strategy, a series of focus groups will be held throughout September so that we can hear from you directly about some of the challenges you have found regarding training and the types of courses you would like to see offered in the future. The sessions will run for 90 minutes and will be run on MS Teams. We will soon be calling for volunteers to participate, so please keep an eye out and sign-up right away as places will be limited.

Devon Cares: Your new DCHC digital community and learning hub

We are excited to announce that we will soon be launching Devon Cares, a new social networking and learning community for DCHC members. Our popular WhatsApp group chat will be transitioning across to this platform, meaning we will have access to a richer range of features to enable us to collaborate and share ideas and resources more effectively. Over time, we will build up a repository of resources that DCHC members will be able to access at any time. Signing up for Devon Cares will also give you and your teams FREE access to our new online learning hub. We are in the final stage of preparing this to be launched. The platform allows you 24/7 access to a large repository of quality online learningdeveloped to support your team.

Workforce Development Fund (WDF)

DCHC has been selected as the lead WDF administrator for Devon. WDF is the primary funding source from Skills for Care and is dedicated funding to support the development of social care employees. What this means is that you will be able to apply for funding to participate in training directly through DCHC. We intend to make this process as streamlined as possible to help as many of you access these funds as we can. One of the key eligibility requirements to be able to access these funds is that your home updates your information on the National Minimum Data Set (NMDS). It is mandatory that this is completed; without it, your home will be deemed ineligible. We intend to provide you with a lot of support and guidance to enable you to get this requirement completed. Communication  about this will be coming out soon. When it does, please follow the instructions to complete this requirement to ensure all of your team is eligible to access the WDF.
