Gillmans - Greener Homes: reduce cost, reduce your impact

As Gillman’s are now in our second year as sponsors for the Devon Care Homes Collaborative, we have put together a summary of our blogs and how we can help your green credentials, whilst saving money:

In the Laundry:

• Commercial machines as opposed to domestics – Longer life span, maintainable, faster cycles. Parts available for years after purchase, auto dose chemicals, CQC compliant, in-built intelligence offering better water and power usage than domestics.
• Chemical disinfection as opposed to thermal disinfection – Wash at 40 degrees as opposed to 75 degrees, which is faster and more cost effective. There is also less shrinkage and damage to residents' laundry.
• Heat pump driers – You can drastically reduce your costs and energy use with the latest in green tech for drying laundry and better still NO ducting needed!
• Duct cleaning – If your driers can breathe easily, they will dry easily and be more reliable and cheaper to run.

In the Kitchen:

• Dishwashers – Old single skinned machines generate a lot of heat in the kitchen, which is wasted energy. Double skinned machines keep the heat in the box and are quieter to run, saving in most cases power and water.
• Refrigeration – Proper commercial grade fridges are better insulated, show the temperature on a screen and can be lockable and, in the case of medicine fridges, have a back up battery, so if the home loses power, the meds are okay.
