We know that great progress is being made vaccinating vulnerable people and care staff against COVID 19, but the risk of infection remains and the new variant of COVID potentially increases the risk as infection is spread more easily. The Department of Health and Social Care and the Better Care Fund team are hosting a webinar covering the South East, South West and Greater London, focusing on Infection Prevention and Control on Wednesday, 3 March. We invite you to join us to ask questions and remind yourselves of the important things to do to keep yourself and the people you care for safe.

    Participants will:

    • Learn about risk factors and best practice for Infection Prevention and Control
    • Share practice, learning and ideas
    • Be able to ask questions and hear from experts, including home care and care home providers

The webinar is open to all, but they are aimed primarily at care staff involved in infection prevention and control in care homes and in the community.

    You will hear from:

    • Hugh Evans, Director of Adult Social Services, Bristol City Council
    • Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse in the Department of Health and Social Care
    • Leslie Macleod-Downes, Senior Infection Prevention and Control Nurse Care Homes & Domiciliary Care Team - NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group
    • Mike Armstrong, Managing Director of Havering Care Homes Ltd, London, and Chair of Havering Care Association, Provider Lead for London & NEL Care Home Oversight group

A short animation developed by Roots and Wings will also be shown

A panel of experts including the speakers, will answer your questions

DCHC are working with DCC / Skills For Care, to run a supplemental free induction webinar to add an introduction to ‘non task based’/‘person centred approaches‘ for the fast-track Skills For Care induction. These will be running through Feb and March.

These sessions will repeat each Thursday 10am via Zoom for 1.5 hrs. It will be a simple, single session for new or nearly new recruits. Please email Geoffrey.cox@southernhealthcare.co.uk if anyone wishes to join any of the webinars and would like a link.

    These webinars will cover:

    1. Essence of Person centredness

    2. Basics of Appreciative Inquiry as a modern way of working

    3. Feelings based approaches to Dementia care

    4. Quality of life elements as a focus

    5. Key Elements of ‘relationship based care’

    6 Basics of Emotional intelligence.

This material is drawn from previous Kitemark workshops, the 6 elements knit together and comes with a workbook. A simple initiative to introduce recruits to elements beyond the fast track basics / mechanics as a DCHC initiative.
