One of the key motivators of the founders of Devon Care Homes Collaborative (DCHC) was to support the care homes in our area to provide quality services. One way to support our members was their access to quality workforce recruitment and development pathways. As part of this, we had partnered with various learning and development organisations. One of these has been Indago Development.
A group of clinical consultants, at Indago Development, have been working to develop an OSCE training programme to support new-entrant nurses that have joined us through international recruitment pathways. This has been spearheaded by the need to ensure that the available support and guidance is fit for purpose, for nurses specific to the social care sector.
We know that only 43.5% passed the OSCE, at the first attempt, in the first six months of 2024. Furthermore, applicants from social care have lower pass rates for a number of reasons: one being is that they receive less support to practice the range of clinical skills compared to applicants who are supported by the NHS trust. Our research tells us that the OSCE provision is NHS-focused and therefore leaves a gap for social care nurses.
As a result of this, Indago Development's OSCE training programme is able to offer member homes 12 fully funded places in 2025! This funding must be used before the end of the financial year (31st March 2025) so we are looking for homes who are interested in using this funding and taking up these places to contact us ASAP.
Please contact Bhavin Tailor (bhavin@indagodevelopment.co.uk) for further information and the next steps.
We look forward to working with you closely in the early part of 2025.
Merry Christmas in the meantime!
